Giesinger Märzen reflects Munich’s rich Oktoberfest tradition, offering a deeper malt profile while retaining classic Bavarian balance. Pouring deep amber to copper with a creamy off-white head, the aroma presents toasted bread, caramelized malt, and subtle herbal hop notes. The palate is medium-bodied and smooth, with layers of toasty Munich malt, light toffee, and gentle sweetness balanced by moderate bitterness. Unlike sweeter interpretations, Giesinger’s Märzen maintains a clean finish, allowing the malt depth to shine without becoming heavy. The beer’s rounded structure and moderate alcohol create a warming yet refreshing experience. Märzen pairs naturally with roasted pork, sausages, schnitzel, and aged alpine cheeses. Its malt richness also complements pretzels with mustard and hearty autumn dishes.

Founded in 2006 by Steffen Marx, Giesinger Bräu began as a small craft brewery in Munich’s Giesing district — a working-class neighborhood not traditionally associated with the city’s six historic brewing giants. At a time when Munich’s beer culture was largely defined by long-established institutions, Giesinger emerged as a modern, independent brewery dedicated to reviving neighborhood brewing traditions while respecting Bavaria’s centuries-old standards.

The brewery initially operated on a modest system producing small batches for local consumption. As demand grew, Giesinger expanded thoughtfully, investing in a larger production facility in 2017 that significantly increased capacity while maintaining strict adherence to the Bavarian Reinheitsgebot (German Purity Law). The new brewhouse allowed the brewery to scale distribution throughout Germany while preserving its commitment to traditional lager fermentation, extended cold conditioning, and precise ingredient sourcing — particularly Bavarian malt and Hallertau hops.

Unlike many contemporary German breweries focused heavily on export markets, Giesinger built its reputation locally first, cultivating a strong following within Munich before expanding outward. Its beers emphasize technical precision, clean fermentation profiles, and stylistic authenticity rather than trend-driven experimentation.

This marks the first time Giesinger Bräu has been featured in the United States, offering American drinkers a rare opportunity to experience an independent Munich brewery rooted in tradition yet shaped by modern craft sensibilities. By bridging local Bavarian heritage with contemporary independent brewing culture, Giesinger stands as a unique voice within Munich’s storied lager landscape.
