For being the lightest of this special group of 500mL bottles from HaandBryggeriet, there's a whole lot of stuff already going on in this one. A tart ale from the Norwegian brewery, made with sea-buckthorn (“deciduous shrubs”, apparently), proving both potent and so refreshing.

This pours a bright, honey golden, with the chance of it being luminous being pretty good if you’re sampling this outside after work as the sun sets—which seemed like an ideal time for it. We were just really impressed by how unique and expressive the fruit character here felt, a generous display of deliciousness from the sea-buckthorn and yeast. Tart, and way out there. Plenty of pink grapefruit in the aroma, with frozen peaches, lemon juice and a hint of funk.

We found lots of delicious, lightly tart fruit present here: peach, kumquat, tangerine… A ton of bright orange citrus, light but prickly carbonation that adds some additional zest, and then just lemony tartness through into the finish. There’s moderate levels of acidity here, as we’re tasting, with some underlying toast and just delicious citrus-slanted fruits steering everything.

While we personally found the bottled yeast to muddle a bit of that bright fruit character as we neared the end of the bottle, it also added a smoothness and additional notes, which you may find you prefer. Though, we would encourage pouring gently if you're planning to split a bottle of this into a few glasses to share. (We dug having that fresh peach note pop out.)

The citrus zest, and particularly with some of those vanilla and almond-like notes from the conditioning yeast, really seems to recommend itself to things like creamy vanilla cheesecake: almost creamsicle-like, in essence. It should also work well as a tart aperitif beside fresh fruit. This should stand up to at least some months in the cellar, although do mind the light ABV.
