Hopfen König, meaning "Hop King," is Schloss Eggenberg's crisp interpretation of the classic European pilsner. Pouring a brilliant pale gold beneath a dense, snow-white head, it immediately showcases exceptional clarity and lively carbonation. Aromas of freshly baked bread, delicate cracker malt, floral noble hops, and subtle herbal spice create an inviting bouquet that reflects the elegance of traditional Austrian brewing. A faint hint of citrus and fresh-cut grass adds brightness without distracting from the beer's refined malt character. On the palate, Hopfen König is clean, crisp, and beautifully balanced. Light pilsner malt provides notes of fresh bread, biscuit, and subtle honey before giving way to expressive noble hop flavors featuring floral, herbal, and lightly spicy notes. The bitterness is firm yet refined, finishing dry and refreshing with lingering hop character that encourages another sip. At 5.1% ABV, Hopfen König is exceptionally versatile, pairing effortlessly with Wiener schnitzel, grilled bratwurst, roast chicken, seafood, soft pretzels, mild Alpine cheeses, or fresh salads. Its elegant balance makes it equally enjoyable as a refreshing aperitif or alongside a hearty Austrian meal.
With a brewing history dating back to 1681, Schloss Eggenberg Brewery is one of Austria's oldest privately owned breweries and remains family-operated by the Stöhr family. Located within the historic Schloss Eggenberg castle in the town of Vorchdorf, Upper Austria, the brewery has spent more than three centuries refining traditional Austrian brewing while embracing thoughtful innovation. Combining generations of brewing expertise with state-of-the-art technology, Schloss Eggenberg has earned an international reputation for producing exceptionally balanced lagers, pilsners, bocks, and specialty beers.
The brewery places tremendous emphasis on quality ingredients, using pristine Austrian water, carefully selected barley malts, and premium European hops to create beers that are both authentic and highly drinkable. While many beer enthusiasts know Schloss Eggenberg for its celebrated Samichlaus, one of the world's strongest lagers, the brewery's portfolio also includes elegant everyday beers that reflect Austria's rich brewing heritage. Today, Schloss Eggenberg exports its beers to markets around the world while remaining dedicated to the craftsmanship and traditions that have defined the brewery for centuries.
