Known as the “liquid gold of Salzburg,” Stiegl Goldbräu is a classic Austrian Märzen-style lager with more than a century of tradition. It pours a clear golden-blonde color beneath an impressive white foam head, releasing inviting aromas of freshly baked bread, lightly toasted grain, honeyed malt, and delicate floral hops. The bouquet is clean and restrained, placing its smooth malt character at the center while subtle herbal notes provide freshness and balance. The palate is full yet refreshing, offering flavors of soft bread crust, biscuit, sweet grain, and a gentle touch of honey. Mild floral and herbal hop character keeps the malt from becoming overly sweet, leading into a clean, rounded finish with moderate carbonation. At 5.0% ABV, Goldbräu is flavorful enough to complement a meal while remaining exceptionally approachable. Pair it with Wiener schnitzel, roast chicken, bratwurst, grilled pork, soft pretzels, mild Alpine cheeses, or traditional Austrian dumplings. The brewery identifies it as a bottom-fermented Austrian-style Märzen brewed with barley malt, hops, and water.

First documented in 1492, Stieglbrauerei zu Salzburg is one of Austria’s oldest breweries and remains an independent, family-owned company. The name “Stiegl,” meaning “little stair,” refers to the steps beside the brewery’s original location in Salzburg’s historic center. Over more than five centuries, Stiegl has developed from a small local brewhouse into one of Austria’s leading private breweries while preserving a strong connection to Salzburg’s culture and traditional beer-making heritage.

Today, Stiegl combines long-established brewing methods with modern production and a focus on regional ingredients. Its portfolio ranges from classic Austrian lagers and wheat beers to more experimental releases produced through the brewery’s Wildshut estate. Goldbräu remains its signature beer, reflecting the brewery’s emphasis on clean fermentation, finely balanced malt character, and approachable drinkability.
