This beer is crafted to be a blend of the old and new worlds. It’s a witbier, a Belgian-style unfiltered “white beer” that’s typically brewed with citrus peel and coriander – but this one is brewed with all American-sourced ingredients, including an American ale yeast strain. On the pour, we get a nicely bright golden orange hue that’s well hazed per the style, topped by a head of lively foam. The coriander and California orange peel additions jump out right away in the aroma, providing an inviting fruity character that draws us in. On the palate, barley and wheat malts provide a tasty center with just a touch of caramelization and some characteristic wheaty tanginess. Look for the orange peel to offer a tasty fruity element without overpowering the beer, while the coriander augments the citric elements while delivering a lightly spicy vibe that works nicely with the spritely, lifting carbonation. For pairing options, witbiers are a great match for tangy, lighter fare such as Asian salads with chicken and mandarin slices. Seafood should pair well too, like fish & chips, mussels, or grilled shrimp with a citrus glaze. Finally, a snack of nutty or earthy cheeses should work well, or try a lightly tart lemon cake for a fun dessert pairing. Cheers

UFO Beer Company got its start back in 1998, as a side brand of Harpoon Brewery focused solely on unfiltered wheat beers. The name stands for “UnFiltered Offering”, and the UFO theme also is a nod to the rather alien drinking experience Harpoon felt these beers were for New England beer drinkers at the time. These brews were not only unfiltered, but also typically infused with fruits like orange peel or raspberry – as many wheat ales are around the world, either in the brewing process, or when served. A slice of lemon on a glass of hefeweizen is not an uncommon sight. Today, UFO offers several year-round beers as well as new seasonal offerings. For more info, visit them at ufobeer.com.
