Alesong Brewing & Blending - Island Rhino Suit
Serving Temperature:44–52° F
Suggested Glassware:Tulip, Teku, Globe Snifter
Island Rhino Suit carries on the theme of imperial milk stout but takes it to an entirely new direction: Tropical! This massive beer skips the bourbon barrels and opts for Barbados rum barrels with the extra kick of toasted coconut. Poured into our glasses, this dark brown/black milk stout had a rich tan head and the tropical aromas mingled with deeply roasted malt were sensational and noticeably different from the other Rhino Suit offerings. The rum barrels came through with notes of fruity molasses and dark brown sugar while the tropical toasted coconut invoked a sweet savory aroma.
Our first sip confirmed all the aromas as pronounced flavors and brought out even more of the rum barrel flavors. Additionally, the toasted coconut was present start to finish and was joined by flavors of chewy dark fruit, toasty malt bitterness, and flashes of bruleed brown sugar. Well-rounded and smooth, the full-bodied Island Rhino Suit’s long finish lingered on our palates with a nice warming sensation.
Island Rhino Suit would make a fine addition to any dinner table or beer cellar for long term aging. Coconut driven dishes would pair well here, as would pan seared duck breast, blue and gorgonzola cheeses, and German Chocolate Brownies.
