Acadian Skies is Batson River’s take on a German-style Schwarzbier, a dark lager style known for balancing roasted malt character with the crisp drinkability of a traditional lager. Despite its deep, dark appearance, the beer is designed to be smooth and refreshing rather than dense or overly heavy.

Roasted malts provide inviting notes of coffee and chocolate, giving Acadian Skies a rich aroma and a pleasantly complex malt profile. Those darker flavors are balanced by a clean lager fermentation, allowing the roasted character to come through without overwhelming the palate. The result combines some of the comforting flavors associated with stout or porter with a considerably lighter, crisper presentation.

Its balance is what makes Acadian Skies particularly approachable. Toasted and roasted flavors provide depth, while its lager character keeps the finish clean and easy-drinking. Enjoy Acadian Skies fresh or within several months of purchase; extended cellaring is unlikely to improve its crisp lager character. Serve chilled around 45–50°F and pair it with bratwurst, roasted or grilled meats, smoked sausages, mushroom dishes, aged cheddar, or chocolate desserts, all of which complement its roasted coffee and cocoa notes.

Batson River Brewing & Distilling is a Maine-based craft producer rooted in the state’s agricultural traditions. Founded by longtime friends with a shared appreciation for craft beer, spirits, and Maine hospitality, the company’s beginnings are connected to a 400-acre family-owned farm in Kennebunkport. Batson River opened its first tasting room in Kennebunk in 2018, building its identity around a farm-to-glass philosophy and a strong connection to southern Maine.
