Groomsmen Protocol 101

Several Grooms told us that most wedding resources focus on the Bride and forget about the Groom! Actually, there is so much information available for Brides that it must be very confusing for both the Bride and Groom! So we created a simple checklist depicting what is expected of the Groom.

We hope this will help you to stay on target!

Select a Best Man who has great organizational skills, since he will be assisting you in many areas…

Making sure everyone looks great in their tux and has a map to the church
Managing the Groomsmen, their duties and lodging requirements
Picking up boutonnieres and other stuff
Helping with transportation and the honeymoon travel arrangements
Preparing for the bachelor party
Helping with the rehearsal dinner and making a toast to the Bride and Groom
Assuming the roles of toastmaster, chauffeur, friend and advisor
Keeping the marriage license safe for delivery on the Wedding Day
Organizing the purchase of a gift for the Bride from the Groomsmen
Delivering the Grooms checks to the priest, minister, rabbi, or other officiator, and the bandleader, chauffeur, etc.
Passing the wedding ring at the right time!

Choose your formalwear merchant and set up an appointment to select the style and colors. Make sure your future Bride attends and agrees. Many Brides want their wedding gown to be a surprise to the Groom, but it doesn't work the other way around!

Make the final selection for your boutonnieres. It is the Groom's responsibility to pay for the Bridal Bouquet, and many pay for all of the flowers.

Consider having your wedding bands engraved. Here are some ideas: Semper amemus [Our love is forever], Semper fidelis [Always faithful], Autre ne veux [I think of none other], Forever in Love, and Our love is eternal.

Purchase a combination membership to the gourmet clubs that you'll both enjoy the most together for the Bride's wedding gift. Every month you can plan a romantic date with your wife and celebrate your marriage. Compose a poem to accompany the first delivery. Or include a copy of your toast to the Bride.

Don't forget the marriage license and your blood tests! Take the lead on managing the honeymoon arrangements and budget. Your Bride has enough to do. Get started early on applications for passports and visas. Handle the details for your first evening as man and wife. Surprise your new wife with flowers [Remember she had to give her bridal bouquet away!] and wine in the hotel suite.

Make security arrangements for the gifts which are delivered to your reception.

Rehearsal dinners are traditionally the responsibility of the Groom's family, and so you will be directly involved in planning that event. If your caterer is not providing the liquor and wine, you may need to delegate that to your Best Man who may delegate it to one of your Groomsmen

Give checks for the clergyman's fee, musicians fee, etc. to your Best Man so he can deliver them just prior to the ceremony.

Confirm everything at least once!
